Colposcopy
Colposcopy is a diagnostic procedure used to examine the cervix, vagina, and vulva for signs of abnormal tissue.
It involves using a special magnifying instrument called a colposcope to get a closer look at these areas.
Why is it done?
- Abnormal Pap test: If your Pap smear shows abnormal cells, a colposcopy can help determine the cause.
- Human Papillomavirus (HPV) infection: A positive HPV test might lead to a colposcopy to check for any associated changes.
- Visible abnormalities: If your doctor notices any unusual changes during a pelvic exam, a colposcopy can be used to investigate further.
