Tread Mill Testing

Tread Mill Testing

Treadmill testing, also known as an exercise stress test, is a common diagnostic procedure used to evaluate the heart's
response to physical exertion. It's a valuable tool for diagnosing various heart conditions and assessing overall cardiovascular health.

How Does it Work?

During a treadmill test, you walk on a treadmill while hooked up to an electrocardiogram (ECG) machine that monitors your heart's electrical activity. The speed and incline of the treadmill gradually increase, simulating physical exertion. Healthcare professionals also monitor your blood pressure and heart rate throughout the test.

Purpose of Treadmill Testing

  •     Diagnosing coronary artery disease: This is the most common reason for the test. It helps determine if there's a blockage in the heart's arteries.
  •     Evaluating heart function: It assesses how well the heart pumps blood during exercise.
  •     Determining exercise capacity: It helps measure your ability to exercise and identify potential limitations.
  •     Detecting arrhythmias: It can uncover irregular heart rhythms that may occur during physical exertion.
